The project is the summary of the results of a year-long research process between 1 January 2018 and 15 April 2020 covering six countries and exploring how the Kremlin weaponizes historical and current-day “territorial revisionism” in its disinformation campaigns.
Using qualitative and quantitative approaches of narrative and statistical, network analysis, Political Capital and its partners monitored and revealed the Kremlin’s disinformation campaigns and active measures promoting revisionism and the revision of borders in Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine, Hungary, Romania and Serbia. The regional and national studies provide a precise picture of the scope of the problem, as well as formulate recommendations.
We hope that our research results can provide local elites, the Euro-Atlantic Community and the wider public with recommendations on how to recognize and thwart Russian hostile information operations based on revisionist narratives, communication campaigns aimed at upending European peace and stability. We are grateful for the generous support of the Open Information Partnership, which made this research possible.
